On 3 September 2018 Florian Schweizer, The Arts Society chief executive, is running from Walmer Castle to Sandwich Guildhall then along the sea front between Walmer and Deal Pier. He then runs via the Cinque Ports golf club to the RSPB observatory, and then into Sandwich. He will probably complete the 11 km run just before 6 pm. To see the poster click here
The raffle to raise funds for Combat Stress was drawn at our Jubilee Lunch on 20 July. The prize, won by Jenny Vye of Canterbury Evening Society, was a picture entitled “All That Glitters” especially produced for our Jubilee by a service veteran. Over £3,000 was raised for the charity, and after expenses had been deducted a cheque for £2,600 was presented to Combat Stress representative Peter Butterworth . On Friday 20 July we had a very successful lunch to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of NADFAS/The Arts Society. Over 100 Past Area Chairmen, Past Society Chairmen and current Area and Society Chairmen and Committee members enjoyed a splendid meal at the Darwin Suite, University of Kent at Canterbury. On 4 July 2018 members attended a Day of Special Interest on the subject of The Treasures of Prague presented by Clare Ford-Wille. Everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the expert lectures which were of particular interest to those who will be taking part in our Study Tour in September.
On 6 July 2018 The Arts Society Sandwich celebrated the Golden Jubilee of NADFAS/The Arts Society, and their own Pearl Anniversary with a Summer Supper. Drinks in the garden of two of their members were followed by a lecture in the Guildhall by Alexandra Epps entitled “Good as Gold”. An excellent supper was then enjoyed by members and guests and a celebratory cake was cut by founder member Ann Vine. Thanks to Chairman Cally Vaile and her team for a delightful evening.
On 10 July 2018 The Arts Society, Dover, Deal and Sandwich will be holding a celebratory tea to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of NADFAS/The Arts Society. This will be held at Deal Town Hall from 2.30-4.30 pm. A local singer, Natasha, will be singing a range of Kentish songs. There is an original Turner of an off-shore scene to be viewed, and the Town Hall is an interesting historical building.
On 29th June 2018 members and guests of the combined Arts Societies in Canterbury celebrated the Golden Jubilee of NADFAS/The Arts Society with a wonderful evening of music by the Marici Saxes, an international saxophone quartet, followed by wine and canapés. Thanks to the Canterbury chairmen, Stuart Field and Jim Gibbons for arranging this event and to their committee members for their help in making this an evening to remember.
