Lee Cary, retiring Chair of Gravesend & District DFAS and new Deputy Chair of Kent Area, was honoured to be asked by Combat Stress to judge an art competition featuring paintings produced by veterans from all three of the Combat Stress therapy centres. There were 15 paintings in the competition and the generally high standard made the judging a difficult task. Lee’s fellow judge was Peter Poole, MBE, MILT, the Combat Stress Chief of Staff and together they finally selected four art works to receive prizes.
Lee is actively forging links with the Combat Stress Art Therapists to further the cause of Art with these vulnerable members of our community. We hope that the art competition will be the first of many joint efforts in this cause and may recruit some new members to NADFAS.
As announced by Elaine at the recent Chairman’s Lunch, Kent Area will be supporting a PSTD veteran who lives in Kent by commissioning a painting. This will be raffled as part of our 2018 Golden Anniversary celebrations. If we can raise enough money we hope to fund a competitor at the 2018 Invictus Games.
